Jess Morphew grew up in Cameron, North Carolina. After receiving her BFA in Graphic Design from North Carolina State University she moved to New York City to work for Penguin Books. After 5 years as a cover designer for the Putnam, Riverhead, and Avery imprints, she decided to pursue an MFA in 2D Design at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Upon returning to New York City she joined the staff of the Pratt Institute Office of Publications where she was the art director for the entire campus. Deciding she wanted to return to books, she joined the staff of Random House in Crown Illustrated and was the art director for the fully illustrated imprints Watson-Guptill, Amphoto Books, and Potter Craft. After 5 years, sensing she wanted to expand herself more, she joined the staff of Crown Trade and began art directing non-fiction titles for a varied list including pop culture, religion, self-help, wellness, business, and non-fiction narrative.

In the past few years she has developed a love of directing photo shoots and has pursued projects as a freelance producer.

When not working she can be found hiking, perusing green markets, cooking, or trying to find time to see a movie. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband, son, and daughter.
